“With advancement in technology, conventional wallpapers have pushed boundaries and are available in materials like silk fabric, natural cork and grass cloth,” explains Jain. Nowadays the same design can be printed on fabric as well as in a matte, gloss and a textured finish, Kehr adds. “You can also go for digitally printed vinyl wallpaper which can be customised as per the selected design and is made-to-measure as per the size of the wall to ensure zero wastage,” says Kunj Shah from Sources Unlimited—brand partner of Wall & Deco India. “Recently wallpapers have moved a step further and are available as acoustic varieties that provide good sound insulation in areas like the home theatre and the home office. Also, a recent innovation is the application of a wallpaper coating which possesses air purifying qualities. Nano particles of silver are present in the coating which causes the ionisation and purification of the surrounding air,” says Basoya.
