Born in France, it has its creative mind in Italy, and produces contemporary rugs hand-knotted in Nepal by expert Tibetan artisans. A deep regard for the materials and the ancient craft is clearly evident in the brand’s eco-friendly approach at every stage of production. From the hand spinning of the softest Himalayan wool to the use of purified rainwater for the washing of the final products, each rug is unique and precious. Feathers is an extension of the Feathers collection, by Maarten De Ceulaer, which introduced marvellous colour combinations and textures, conjuring a vibrant set of plumage. The collection comprises three new species: Feathers Rectangular, Feathers Freeform big and Feathers Runner – a flock of unique rugs that took shape from Maarten De Ceulaer’s affinity for birds.
De Ceulaer pairs and clips digital scans together, often tweaking and morphing them into further abstraction. Shapes, colours, and textures are rearranged into enchanting and absorbing compositions. The collages are then translated into rich and sophisticated rugs, hand-knotted in Himalayan wool and silk. To give life to De Ceulaer’s digital artworks, the highest quality of Tibetan hand-knotting is used with approximately 2,50,000 individual knots per square metre. Different levels of pile-height are hand-cut to create a sense of depth, emphasising the feathers’ shapes, giving the collection a fine and rich texture.
With such high level of details going into the making of each rug, the collection comes across as a natural phenomenon and an artwork.
